Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. The cylinder lock operates with a key that unlocks the cylinder's casing. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned to the pins in the lock, allowing them to turn the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. Internal and external doors require different levels of security.

The selection of a cylinder is crucial. It's dependent on the amount of use your doors and handles will receive. External doors, for example should be equipped with cylinders that are more secure, whereas doors inside can be secured using a standard cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders come with additional features that increase security further, such as anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

A euro cylinder must be measured correctly to ensure it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the hole for fixing screws in the middle to the end of the cylinder and the thumb turn if you have one. It is best to do this while the lock is in place however if this is not possible, you can remove it to take measurements. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon might be vulnerable to attacks such as snapping locks, so it is important that it's not too long.

Most modern cylinders are designed with bump and anti-drill features included in their design. They are designed to minimize the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This can help to deflect attacks and keep your door safe.

Certain cylinders are constructed to resist snapping.
